Growing your LinkedIn profile: Creating a content plan you’ll actually stick to

We all know the feeling. You get fired up to grow your LinkedIn presence, commit to posting every day… and then, two weeks in, life happens. The posts dry up, and you feel like you’ve failed. Sound familiar?
We’ve all been there.
So let’s ditch the pressure and build a content plan that actually works for you and your brand or business — one that’s realistic.
Start With Your Content Verticals
Think about what you want to be known for. That’s your starting point. Whether it’s marketing strategy, B2B sales brochures, AI tools, or industry trends — focus on topics that come naturally. These may include your areas of expertise or subjects you’re genuinely curious about.
If it feels forced or like you’re playing a character, it’ll show in your posts. Stick to what you know or care about — that’s where the good stuff comes from.
Choose a Frequency You Can Commit To
Consistency matters more than quantity. According to Buffer, users who posted consistently just once a week for 20+ weeks saw a median of 4.47 engagements per post - over five times higher than their sporadically posting counterparts. Now imagine if you posted twice a week! But do it every week. Don’t aim for daily posts if that’s not realistic between your full-time job, side hustle, learning French, training for a marathon, and walking the dog.
There’s no shame in starting small. A steady rhythm builds trust with your audience and keeps you top of mind.
Keep it Simple With Visuals
You don’t need a fancy setup to make an impact. One well-thought-out video can go a long way. Record a single video, cut it into bite-sized clips, and repurpose those for every post, or every second post.
Video is powerful. In fact, according to Vidico, a staggering 87% of marketers say video has directly increased sales, and 90% report that it delivers a strong return on investment - making it one of the most effective tools in a modern marketing strategy. It helps people connect with you, not just your words. Even a 30-second clip can drive surprising engagement.
Check Your Analytics Monthly
At the end of each month, take a quick look at what’s landing. Which post got the most views, comments, likes, or shares? Was it a video? A personal story? A how-to?
Use that insight to shape your content for the next month. No need to overanalyse — just spot patterns and double down on what’s working. It’s all part of the process.
The goal isn’t to go viral. The goal is to show up, add value, and stay consistent. A thoughtful, doable content plan will help you grow steadily — and you’ll enjoy the process a lot more too.
So… what’s your first post going to be?
