Don’t worry, I’m not going to go on about Halloween in this email. 😉

Candy and dress-up seem a lot less fun when you’re dreading what’s lurking in your work inbox…

Last time I discussed the value of a growth mindset, now I’m (over) excited to go on about why establishing solid processes will save you from your worst work-mares. Or you can just jump to the end to find out what we’ve got brewing in the Candid Community!

Why Processes Matter When Business is Small

I get it—the word "processes" sounds about as fun as a surprise tax audit.

It conjures images of corporate micromanagement, bureaucratic nonsense, and someone breathing down your neck about TPS reports. If you're a solopreneur, it might feel like overkill. After all, you're the boss, the employee, and the everything-else-er.

So why bother writing things down?

But here's the truth: nothing's more frustrating than running a business that works... until you need a break, and suddenly no one else knows what to do because it's all in your head. When your processes live in a mental vault, you become your own worst bottleneck. Delegating to a freelancer? Hiring an agency? Even just handing off one repetitive task? You can't—because you never wrote it down.

Do yourself a favor: Literally. Write. It. Down.

Just Step 1, Step 2, Step 3. It doesn't need to be perfect or fancy, and it definitely doesn't need to be corporate. It's not just for future teammates or consultants—it's for you. You’ll see exactly what it takes to do things, spot the inefficiencies, and ultimately make your work more manageable. Plus, writing it down gives you the clarity to refine and improve. You'll thank yourself later.

And if you’re dealing with tools that eat up monthly subscription fees, documenting your processes helps you figure out if you’re really using them to their fullest. It makes it easier to streamline things and avoid tool sprawl—nobody needs five different apps to do the same thing (unless you're collecting apps like Pokémon, in which case... carry on, I guess?).

The first step is just to write down what you do. From there, you can figure out how to do it better—maybe it’s more research, maybe it’s investing in better tools, maybe it's just getting rid of extra steps that aren't pulling their weight. (Check out our latest blog article for some tips on getting started.)
